Global Delivery Services refers to EY's worldwide network of service delivery centers. The GDS team plays an important role in EY’s strategy by ensuring effective support to EY’s growth agenda.

The team brings the desired environment, technologies and skilled teams together for facilitation, rapid prototyping and innovative thinking. The competencies offered include analytics, digital, user experience, mobile technology, infrastructure, Microsoft technologies and open innovation.

 

The Opportunity

A Cellular Architect for this engagement must combine telecom architecture (LTE/5G IoT), cybersecurity threat modeling, and utility-scale AMI communication expertise, with strong capabilities in risk assessment, encryption/identity, and long-term network strategy.

A comprehensive analysis of potential impacts to Client cellular functions such as availability, integrity of commands and data, remote operations and service disconnect, fleet management and provisioning, and over-the-air (OTA) updates and firmware distribution. A comprehensive assessment of the public LTE carrier core compromise scenario should begin with a clear definition of the threat scenario—including underlying assumptions, relevant threat actors, preconditions, and potential exposure pathways between carrier infrastructure

 

Your Key Responsibilities

The Cellular IoT Architect shall assess and evaluate client’s proposed communications approaches for upgradation, with a focus on resilience, and long-term viability. Provide an assessment of the client ecosystem and the timelines associated with the modules and services provided by the major wireless carriers.

 

Skills and attributes for success

  • Deep expertise in LTE/4G architecture (EPC, RAN, Core)
  • Understanding of 5G evolution pathways (eRedCap, NB-IoT, Cat-M1)
  • Knowledge of public carrier architectures & dependencies
  • Ability to evaluate long-term technology viability (till 2053 lifecycle)
  • Experience in utility AMI / smart meter communication ecosystems
  • Understanding of:
    • Fleet provisioning & device lifecycle management
    • OTA firmware updates
    • Remote operations / service disconnects
  • Traffic modelling awareness (device density, burst patterns)
  • Cat-M1 (LTE-M), NB-IoT, eRedCap ecosystem maturity
  • Device-module ecosystem & carrier rollout timelines
  • RF characteristics and coverage trade-offs
  • Deep knowledge of:
    • LTE core vulnerabilities
    • Threat models (carrier core compromise scenarios)

 

Ideally, you’ll also

  • Integration with OT/SCADA systems
  • Understanding of grid-edge computing
  • Experience in hybrid comms architecture (cellular + mesh)
  • Digital twin integration for network simulation / traffic modelling

    • Device → Network → Core → Application layers
  • Implementation knowledge of:
    • IPsec / network-layer encryption
    • End-to-end encryption models
    • SIM/eSIM security frameworks
  • Understanding of:
    • Identity & key management systems
