Job Title: Cinematographer & Art Director

Function: Brand, Marketing & Communications – EY GDS Studio

 

Role Overview

The Cinematographer & Art Director is the creative and visual lead for the corporate studio. This role combines the responsibilities of designing the visual identity, sets, lighting, and on-camera aesthetics, along with managing the camera craft, composition, and overall look of all video productions.

The role drives both the creative vision (art direction) and the technical execution of visuals (cinematography), ensuring that every studio asset—from leadership broadcasts to episodic shows—meets professional, broadcast-grade standards.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Visual Strategy & Art Direction
    • Define the visual style, tone, and aesthetic for:
      • Leadership messages
      • Studio shows
      • News desk programs
      • Employee communications
      • Interviews and panel formats
    • Design the look & feel of:
      • Sets
      • Props
      • Backgrounds (physical + virtual)
      • Chroma/virtual environments
    • Create visual guidelines and maintain consistency across all content.

 

  • Cinematography & Camera Leadership
    • Lead all camera-related decisions and execution:
      • Camera angles & movement
      • Shot planning
      • Exposure, white balance, color profile choices
      • Lens selection
      • Framing for chroma, desk, and conversational setups
    • Work with the cameraman to ensure accurate execution of planned visuals.
    • Supervise multi-camera setups for live broadcasts.

 

  • Lighting Design & Control
    • Design lighting layouts for:
      • Large chroma
      • News desk
      • Small chroma
      • Interview sets
    • Set lighting mood and ensure consistent look across episodes and recurring formats.
    • Manage softboxes, key lights, backlights, chroma lighting, and grids.

 

  • Studio Aesthetics & Visual Integrity
    • Ensure the studio space visually aligns with brand guidelines.
    • Maintain and evolve set pieces, backgrounds, and décor.
    • Collaborate with the studio manager to ensure the studio always remains shoot-ready.

 

  • Pre-Production Planning
    • Participate in concept development with content teams.
    • Create shot lists, visual references, and lighting plans.
    • Attend rehearsals and do technical planning for live shows.

 

  • Production & On-Set Management
    • Direct camera operators on shot composition.
    • Work closely with the broadcast engineer on:
      • Camera feeds
      • Chroma keying
      • Live switching look and feel
    • Guide talent on positioning, posture, and visual presence.
    • Ensure each take meets the visual benchmark.

 

  • Quality Control & Post-Production Collaboration
    • Review raw footage for visual consistency.
    • Share color and lighting notes with editors.
    • Approve final visuals before release.

 

Required Skills & Experience

Technical Expertise

  • 5–8 years in cinematography, lighting, or visual design (studio experience preferred).
  • Strong command of:
    • Studio cameras (cinema/mirrorless/PTZ)
    • Lighting for video
    • Chroma key techniques
    • Multi-camera production
    • Composition & framing
  • Familiarity with virtual sets and newsroom-style productions.

 

Creative Expertise

  • Strong visual sense, design thinking, and aesthetic judgment.
  • Ability to design and maintain a cohesive studio look.
  • Strong understanding of color, mood, and branding.

 

Soft Skills

  • Excellent communication and creative articulation.
  • Calm under pressure, especially during live sessions.
  • Ability to guide camera crew and talent effectively.
  • Detail-oriented with high visual standards.

 

Education

  • Degree/diploma in Film, Fine Arts, Media Production, Design, or related fields.
