Job Description: Senior Manager – Digital Twin Expert (Oil & Gas)

EY Global Delivery Services (GDS)

Role Overview

The Senior Manager – Digital Twin Expert (Oil & Gas) will lead the strategy, design, development, and deployment of enterprise-grade Digital Twin solutions for global Oil & Gas clients. The role requires a seasoned technology leader with 15+ years of overall experience, including 2–3 years of proven experience in leading and implementing Digital Twin programs, and a minimum of 3 years of hands-on exposure to Oil & Gas operations.

The candidate will work closely with business leaders, engineering groups, data teams, and platform architects to drive digital transformation initiatives using cutting-edge Digital Twin frameworks, IoT/IIoT platforms, and AI/ML-driven operational insights.

Key Responsibilities

  • Digital Twin Strategy & Architecture
    • Develop enterprise-wide Digital Twin architecture blueprints, reference models, and design patterns tailored to O&G operational needs.
    • Architect Digital Twin ecosystems integrating IoT/IIoT platforms, SCADA, historian systems, edge computing, and cloud-native technologies.
    • Design Digital Twin models for assets, processes, wells, facilities, pipelines, and production systems.
    • Define standards for data ingestion, real time streaming, time series integration, simulation frameworks, and 3D/physics-based modeling.
    • Ensure solutions adhere to principles of cybersecurity, data governance, interoperability, and scalability.
  • Solution Delivery & Technical Leadership
    • Lead multi-disciplinary teams across systems engineering, IoT, cloud engineering, data science, and visualization.
    • Oversee end-to-end Digital Twin implementation life cycle—from requirements gathering to design, development, integration, testing, deployment, and handover.
    • Provide hands-on guidance on model design, simulation logic, KPI frameworks, and integration with operational systems.
    • Conduct architecture reviews ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture and EY quality standards.
    • Work with engineering teams to integrate Digital Twins with ERP, CMMS, field operations platforms, and AI/ML models.
  • Oil & Gas Domain Enablement
    • Build Digital Twin solutions for upstream, midstream, and downstream including:
      • Production optimization
      • Facility operations and energy management
      • Subsurface and well performance modeling
      • Pipeline flow assurance and network optimization
      • Predictive maintenance & asset reliability
      • HSE and remote operations
    • Work with data types such as sensor/IoT data, SCADA, DCS, historian logs, simulation outputs, and engineering metadata.
    • Leverage O&G platforms such as OSDU, AVEVA, AspenTech, Siemens, or Hexagon.
    • Enable clients in adopting next-generation Digital Twin paradigms: process twins, asset twins, system twins, and operational twins.
  • Client Advisory & Stakeholder Management
    • Act as a trusted advisor to CXO and senior leadership on Digital Twin strategy and roadmap execution.
    • Translate complex engineering/operations challenges into scalable Digital Twin solutions and value propositions.
    • Lead client workshops, architecture discussions, and cross-functional engagements.
    • Support proposal development, commercial structuring, and Digital Twin thought leadership for global pursuits.
  • Innovation, Optimization & Continuous Improvement
    • Identify cross-domain opportunities to integrate Digital Twins into asset operations, maintenance, safety, and field automation.
    • Drive creation of reusable components, accelerators, and frameworks to standardize Digital Twin delivery.
    • Conduct Digital Twin maturity assessments and develop capability uplift programs.
    • Stay current on emerging technologies—simulation engines, physics-based modelling, AI-driven twins, and digital thread concepts.

Required Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience in Digital Twin, IoT/IIoT, advanced analytics, or systems engineering leadership roles.
  • 2–3 years of proven experience implementing enterprise Digital Twin solutions.
  • 3+ years of direct experience in Oil & Gas operations (upstream/midstream/downstream).
  • Hands-on expertise in:
    • Industrial IoT/IIoT platforms (Azure IoT, AWS IoT, AVEVA, PTC, Siemens, Schneider, etc.)
    • SCADA, historian systems, real-time streaming data
    • Simulation tools (Aspen HYSYS, OLGA, AFT, ANSYS, etc.)
    • Cloud platforms (Azure/AWS/GCP) and microservices architectures
    • Integration of sensor data, time-series analytics, and operational systems
  • Demonstrated leadership in delivering large, multi-region projects with distributed teams.
  • Strong stakeholder communication, presentation, and client advisory skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with engineering & simulation-based Digital Twins (process, equipment, facility).
  • Knowledge of OSDU, reservoir and production systems, flow assurance, or FPSO operations.
  • Exposure to Digital Thread and model-based systems engineering (MBSE).
  • Certifications in IoT, cloud, Digital Twin platforms, or enterprise architecture (TOGAF).
  • Familiarity with AI/ML enhanced Digital Twins, predictive modeling, and operational intelligence.
  • Prior consulting experience, ideally within Big 4 environments.
  • Understanding of DevOps, DataOps, edge computing, and containerized deployments (Docker/Kubernetes).
