The opportunity

As a Security Assessor at EY, you will support the delivery of security compliance assessments over entities against Australian Federal Government regulatory frameworks. Working under the guidance of senior team members, you will assist in assurance activities including documentation reviews, onsite validation, and control effectiveness testing. This role provides an excellent opportunity to develop audit knowledge in security within regulated Federal Government environments.

You will contribute to delivering clear assessment outcomes and practical remediation advice, helping entities enhance their security maturity and regulatory compliance.

This role is based in Ballarat Wadawurrung – Ballarat. Roles can potentially be adjusted to work flexibly with reduced hours. Please speak with us about potential options.

Your key responsibilities

  • Assist in the delivery of compliance assessments against regulatory frameworks across entities operating in various security environments.
  • Support document-based reviews including policies, standards, procedures, security governance frameworks, and operating models.
  • Document assessment outcomes with clear compliance ratings, risk articulation, and defensible audit trails under supervision.
  • Assist in developing findings, evidence summaries, and remediation recommendations for technical and executive audiences.
  • Engage with security teams to validate control implementation and communicate assessment scope, approach, and findings.

Skills and attributes for success

  • Some experience or exposure to formal compliance assessments in regulated or government environments is desirable.
  • Ability to assist in documentation-based assessments.
  • Willingness to learn how to identify gaps between documented security governance intent and actual operational practice.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively with industry entities and team members.
  • Developing communication skills to clearly convey security governance issues.
  • Strong written skills with support in producing assessment reports suitable for executive consumption.
  • Due to the nature of the work, Australian citizenship is a requirement.

Ideally, you’ll also have the skills and attributes below but don’t worry if you don’t tick all the boxes. We’re interested in your aptitude, attitude and willingness to learn.

  • 1-2 years of experience in assurance, risk management, compliance, or related roles preferred.
  • Ability to interpret security governance documentation, policies, and control implementation artefacts with guidance.
  • Developing understanding of risk management and assurance principles.
