FAAS provides advisory services to clients regarding practical application of new standards and accounting regulations and assist in interpretation of, and ensuring compliance with, the effective financial accounting standards through various types of engagements.
The opportunity
As a FAAS senior, you will help our clients to meet challenges that their teams are currently facing. You will also assist the clients in improving and implementing efficient reporting processes. Deliver added value services to clients by providing industry insight, “out-of-the-box” ideas and solutions to improve their reporting model and to assist them in applying relevant accounting standards i.e., conversions, implementation of new standards, accounting opinions, etc. At the same time, you will of course manage you own client relationships, being professional in your service to them and ensuring that engagements are executed in accordance with the firm's methodologies and guidance, professional standards and local legal and regulatory requirements. Your key responsibilities
- To work closely with colleagues under the supervision of FAAS managers/ senior managers and determining whether the work plan is properly executed, documented and concluded in accordance with the firm's methodologies and guidance, professional standards and local legal and regulatory requirements;
- To consult clients on producing financial statements and further improving financial reporting procedures;
- To design and develop accounting policies and methodologies complying with existing or new/ revised IFRS and statutory accounting standards;
- To assist clients in implementing financial reporting procedures, enhancing their efficiency and supporting in improvement of financial statement closing process;
- To support implementation of accounting systems;
- To establish and maintain internal and external relationships, supervising junior engagement team members;
- To help creating a positive learning culture by coaching and counseling junior team members and assisting them in their development.
Skills and attributes for success
- Participating in development and discussion of IFRS and other new accounting standards and amendments to legislation, studying their practical impact on clients;
- Negotiating with clients and advising on complicated issues;
- Analyzing accounting policies used for preparation of financial statements;
- Working with various clients, providing practical solutions on complicated accounting issues and mandatory reporting;
- Working with clients' personnel to prepare financial statements and assist them in developing financial information and improving reporting processes;
- Studying technical issues and development of reference materials for clients and EY employees, that form part of intellectual capital of our company and are one of the most important factors in development of our innovative potential;
- Implementing projects in compliance with high quality standards;
- Providing operational advice to clients and EY employees on technical issues;
- Participating in business development and other marketing activities aimed at developing the FAAS practice.
To qualify for the role, you must have:
- Higher education in Finance/ Audit/ Economics/ Accounting;
- Relevant work experience of at least 2-3 years as an accountant in finance department (preferably in different industries) or in audit / consulting (preferably in Big Four);
- Fluency in written and spoken English and Azerbaijani;
- ACCA student with at least F2, F3, F7 and F8 papers. Completion of all fundamental level papers is an advantage;
- Knowledge and understanding of IFRS and statutory accounting standards;
- Excellent analytical skills and ability to solve complex problems;
- Strong communication and negotiation skills;
- A desire to focus on technical accounting and develop your knowledge and skills in this space.
Ideally, you’ll also have:
- Technically sound understanding and application of accounting standards (e.g., IFRS 9, IFRS 10, IFRS 15, IFRS 16, etc.);
- Basic project management skills, advanced written and verbal communication skills;
- Experience in preparing and auditing financial statements and consolidation;
- Significant exposure to finance functions at financial corporate institutions – e.g., strategy, policy, procedures, and controls;
- Proficiency in using office software (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
