Senior, Climate Change and Sustainability Services (CCaSS)

EY creates an opportunity for experienced specialists to join Climate Change and Sustainability Services (CCaSS) team of EY Baku Office. We are actively developing services in the field of non-financial reporting and assurance services as well as providing sustainability/ESG advisory services to businesses to be compliant with local legislation and international standards in environmental performance, labor practices, occupational health and safety, social investment, supply chain, etc., considering the needs and expectations of businesses and their wider stakeholder community. At the same time, we work with governmental institutions to strengthen the legislation, develop, and implement required initiatives, policy and programs aimed at improving the sustainability landscape in the country.

As part of the CCaSS team, you will be actively involved in the research, analysis, and consulting on sustainability/ESG strategies in line with the leading industry practice as well as the local and international regulations and reporting frameworks. You will also assist in the development and/or customization of practical approaches tailored to the clients’ economic, social, and environmental needs. You will explore the factors driving business performance, assess risk and apply critical thinking, and in the process, become a more connected, responsive, and insightful professional.

 

Your key responsibilities

 

As a CCaSS team-member, you will be expected to ensure that all the required work output is delivered in a timely manner in line with or exceeding the key performance expectations assigned for you position. The tasks include research, analysis, and consulting of sustainability/ESG policies and strategies for companies in line with the leading industry practice and tightening local and international regulations and frameworks. You will also participate in the development of sustainability related advisory projects, as well as preparation and assurance of the public non-financial reports. Moreover, having excellent English report writing and business communication skills as well as critical analysis and analytical thinking is preferrable.

 

 

Skills and Attributes for Success

As a Senior Consultant within the Sustainability and Climate Change team, you will contribute to a broad range of analytical and advisory engagements while working directly with clients. Your competencies should enable you to:

  • Analyze key client documentation on sustainability, environmental management, occupational health and safety performance, corporate governance, and reporting, and benchmark these against leading practices.
  • Develop analytical insights and well-structured recommendations by applying strong critical thinking.
  • Prepare high-quality presentations, reports, and training materials, and deliver content to clients and other stakeholders.
  • Conduct desk research—including market and policy analysis, and business process assessments—to identify gaps, improvement opportunities, and performance-enhancement measures for clients and their stakeholders.
  • Draft formal client correspondence and prepare project documentation in accordance with internal procedures and quality standards.
  • Build and maintain productive working relationships with client personnel at various levels.
  • Demonstrate thorough understanding of workplace policies, procedures, and professional standards.
  • Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, including:
    - Delegating tasks clearly and appropriately.
    - Collaborating with EY regional teams on cross-border or regional projects.
    - Demonstrating leadership with junior team members by providing guidance, support, and constructive communication.
    - Managing multiple deliverables across parallel projects while maintaining strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

 

To Qualify for the Role, You Must Have

We welcome applicants from a broad range of backgrounds, and are particularly interested in candidates with the following qualifications:

  • A completed Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Studies, Energy, Economics, Business Administration/Consulting, Engineering, Social Sciences, or other relevant fields.
  • A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in sustainability-related work, ideally involving resource efficiency, energy audits, air emissions inventory and management, occupational health and safety, or corporate social responsibility within sectors such as energy, utilities, transportation, sustainable finance, banking, or other related industries.
  • Experience in projects involving non-financial and/or integrated reporting, assurance of non-financial or ESG data, or participation as an external consultant on time-bound assignments.
  • Strong knowledge of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), GHG accounting, carbon footprinting, and lifecycle analysis.
  • Excellent professional written and verbal communication skills in English and Azerbaijani; working-level Russian is an advantage.
  • A growth mindset with a pragmatic, solutions-oriented approach; dynamic working style; strong organizational and structural skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, overcome challenges, and collaborate effectively, supported by relevant project or work experience.
  • Strong presentation and communication abilities, including experience developing high-quality internal and client-facing presentations and working documents.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and strong quantitative and qualitative data analysis and visualization skills.

 

 Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Certification and/or proven work experience as one of the following: Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) practitioner, Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) (FSA) credential holder, IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories, GHG Protocol;
  • Ability to quickly adapt to the new environment and work with multinational teams and clients;
  • Effective time management and planning skills;
  • Ability to work under pressure and in short timeframes and maintain the can-do attitude;
  • Ability to travel.
