We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Consultant to join our team as a Data Engineer. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work at the forefront of data integration and model development, specifically focusing on integrating Snowflake with Cortex. You will play a crucial role in enabling data ingestion, designing and training models, and creating user-friendly interfaces that empower users to interact with complex data through natural language queries.  

 

This position offers a unique chance to contribute to innovative projects while also providing mentorship and technical leadership to junior team members. 

 

In line with client requirements, this role is based in either Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch office. Our roles can potentially be adjusted to work flexibly with reduced hours. Please speak with us about potential options. 

 

Ko Tō Rourou | Your key responsibilities  

  • Data modelling and the design and build of data pipelines to ingest and transform data.
  • Integrate Snowflake with Cortex to facilitate seamless data ingestion processes.
  • Design and train machine learning models on Cortex based on a defined set of business questions and requirements.
  • Develop and implement user interfaces using tools like Streamlit that allow users to interact with models using natural language queries.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data needs and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior data engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies to ensure the team remains at the cutting edge of data engineering practices.

 

Ngā Pūkenga | Skills and attributes for success

Proven experience in:

  • Snowflake.
  • Data modelling using a range of data modelling methodologies, including 3rd normal for, Star Schema and Big wide tables.
  • Data engineering and building scalable, robust data pipelines using tools such as DBT.
  • Integrating Snowflake with data processing frameworks, particularly Cortex.

 

Ideally, you’ll also have the skills and attributes below but don’t worry if you don’t tick all the boxes. We’re interested in your aptitude, attitude and willingness to learn.

  • An understanding of machine learning concepts and experience in designing and training models.
  • Proficiency in building interactive user interfaces using Streamlit or similar frameworks.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically about data challenges.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in technical leadership or mentorship roles, guiding junior team members towards success.
  • A proactive and collaborative mindset, with a passion for leveraging data to drive business outcomes.
