We are looking for Managers and Senior Consultants to join EY’s Infrastructure Advisory team to support our commercial, financial and economic advisory engagements. This role is within EY’s wider Strategy and Transactions service line, and is offered on a flexible full time basis in our Wellington or Auckland offices.

 

EY’s Infrastructure Advisory team is New Zealand’s leading advisor to Government and industry on projects and programmes that significantly impact our people and communities. Join this team and you will have the opportunity to advise clients across all infrastructure sectors, including transport, energy, water, defence, health & human services, and justice, representing EY in planning and delivering major investments in our country’s future.

 

Within these sectors we work with our clients across the infrastructure lifecycle to plan and deliver large-scale investment projects. This includes policy development and strategy, economic analysis, financial and commercial analysis, procurement, funding & financing, and advising on strategy and optimisation post-delivery.

 

Core Responsibilities:

 

For these roles we are seeking people with experience in economics, commercial analysis and procurement, or financial modelling to:

 

  • Work in a high-performing team to help Government and industry clients navigate all stages of the infrastructure lifecycle, focusing on the commercial and financial aspects of business case development, commercial structuring, procurement and funding & financing of infrastructure transactions and commissioned services
  • Provide trusted economic, commercial, financial and strategic advice to clients in consultation with senior staff and partners within the context of a changing national policy landscape
  • Develop clear, well written and compelling reports and presentations that reflect an understanding of the sector and of client drivers
  • Assist in identifying opportunities to grow our business and bring our clients the best that EY has to offer, including building relationships in the market and supporting the development of proposals and pitches
  • Manage, mentor and provide counselling to our junior team members

 

Ō Pūmanawa I What we’re looking for

 

Here’s our ‘wish list’ but don’t worry if you don’t tick all the boxes. We’re interested in your strengths, what you want to learn, and how far you want to go.

  • Experience in either an infrastructure advisory or corporate finance delivery role, ideally within a Big 4 firm, construction sector firm, investment bank or institutional bank, or at any level of Government.
  • Demonstrated excellence in skills including:
    • Understanding of key commercial and financial issues in the infrastructure sector, including commercial structuring and analysis, procurement, and the ability to interpret financial statements and build financial models; and/or
    • Understanding of quantitative evaluation methods in economics, including experience with applied cost-benefit analysis, cost effectiveness analysis, statistical modelling and other tools that can be used to assess investment options
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to think strategically when problem solving and a track record of delivering insightful analysis
  • Ability to lead and manage multiple projects/people concurrently, and effectively prioritise competing demands
  • Excellent interpersonal and client management skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively
  • A proactive, supportive and respectful approach to the team, with the ability to function successfully under appropriate pressures and ask for help when required
  • A commitment to a strong positive team culture and enthusiasm for working in a flexible and diverse team environment
  • Minimum of 3-7 years’ professional experience in a relevant role or sector

 

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • A passion for working on some of New Zealand’s largest and most transformative infrastructure projects
  • A good understanding of New Zealand public sector dynamics, including the workings of Government, the Better Business Case framework and broad policy knowledge
  • Core values of integrity and professionalism
  • A willingness to travel domestically.
