AI-Native Experience Engineer - Manager
Job description
Location: Anywhere in Country
At EY, we’re all in to shape your future with confidence.
We’ll help you succeed in a globally connected powerhouse of diverse teams and take your career wherever you want it to go. Join EY and help to build a better working world.
The opportunity
Invent how people and AI work together. In this role, you will design and build the interaction patterns that help people understand, direct, and confidently collaborate with capable AI systems. From delegation and decision-making to oversight and recovery, you will shape experiences that make AI behavior transparent, controllable, and useful in real-world work.
You will own the experience architecture and interaction layer, translating insights from user research into production-ready solutions. Working across product, engineering, AI, security, and research disciplines, you will create intuitive, trustworthy experiences that help people accomplish more while remaining firmly in control of important outcomes.
About Challenger
Challenger is a new EY program focused on building the firm’s next generation of services. It pursues opportunities where AI enables a fundamentally different service and way of delivering it, including rethinking existing offerings and developing new ones. Small, dedicated teams build and test ideas in real conditions. Solutions that demonstrate clear business value and operational readiness transition to the business for adoption and scale.
Challenger Core develops and maintains the shared technology, methods, and risk and quality guardrails that support this work. Each team contributes reusable tools and practices, helping make the next service faster and less costly to build.
Your key responsibilities
- Define experience principles, interaction architecture, and reusable patterns for AI-assisted and agentic products.
- Conduct workflow research and usability testing with diverse users, including people who use assistive technologies.
- Build high-fidelity prototypes and accessible production components for the product’s web, application, conversational, or multimodal surfaces.
- Translate user intent into interaction specifications for clarification, uncertainty, memory, personalization, permissions, and action boundaries.
- Make plans, progress, evidence, tool activity, costs, and outcomes legible without overwhelming users.
- Design controls for preview, approval, interruption, edit, undo, retry, escalation, and human takeover.
- Measure task completion, effort, correction burden, recovery, and trust calibration; partner with AI, platform, security, and evaluation specialists to improve the whole experience.
Skills and attributes for success
- Strong human-AI interaction judgment across complex, asynchronous workflows, balancing usability, transparency, and human control.
- Information design skills that communicate uncertainty, sources, permissions, and system state clearly.
- Ability to carry design intent into production under realistic latency, streaming, and model variability.
- Research judgment combining qualitative insight, behavioral data, and experiments to guide product decisions.
- Collaborative communication across design, engineering, product, and control specialists.
To qualify you must have
- 7+ years of relevant and applicable experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field of study
- A portfolio of shipped interaction design, design engineering, frontend engineering, or HCI work showing both thinking and implementation.
- Production proficiency in modern web or application technologies, delivering responsive, performant components.
- Experience designing for AI, search, recommendation, automation, or another adaptive system.
- Practical command of semantic UI, WCAG, WAI-ARIA, keyboard interaction, and assistive-technology testing.
- Experience extending reusable component libraries and supporting adoption across product teams.
- Travel and On-site requirements: This role requires up to 50% travel and flexibility to go into the office in a hybrid capacity.
Ideally, you’ll also have
- Experience with agentic interfaces, long-running tasks, or human-in-the-loop workflows.
- Experience building streaming, real-time, or multimodal interactions across devices or languages.
- Contributions to inclusive research, cognitive accessibility, open-source design systems, or human-AI interaction practice.
We welcome exceptional candidates from product, service design, operations, transformation, policy, domain, and entrepreneurial backgrounds; no particular degree or certification is required.
