Senior Consultant – Portfolio Planning – Operational Excellence
As part of EY’s Business Consulting team, you will support a client-facing Strategic Operations Office in planning and coordinating enterprise portfolio activities and strategy execution. You will help manage the portfolio planning cycle, facilitate business planning workshops, engage internal stakeholders, update business plans, and provide structured planning support to translate strategy into executable priorities. The role is expected to operate in a secondment-style environment and requires frequent travel, including extended periods at client locations.
Skills and attributes for success
- Support the end-to-end portfolio planning cycle, including preparation, scheduling, stakeholder inputs, consolidation, review, and finalization of planning outputs.
- Plan and facilitate business planning workshops, working sessions, and alignment meetings with internal stakeholders and leadership teams.
- Coordinate the development and periodic update of business plans, strategic priorities, initiatives, milestones, dependencies, and performance measures.
- Translate enterprise strategy into structured portfolio plans, implementation roadmaps, and practical execution activities.
- Support initiative owners in defining objectives, deliverables, timelines, KPIs, resource needs, risks, and interdependencies.
- Analyze portfolio information and prepare clear planning insights, decision papers, status reports, dashboards, and leadership presentations.
- Monitor alignment between strategic priorities, business plans, and portfolio execution, escalating gaps and inconsistencies where appropriate.
- Maintain planning templates, calendars, governance artefacts, and consolidated portfolio records to support consistent execution.
- Engage cross-functional stakeholders to obtain timely inputs, challenge assumptions constructively, and support resolution of planning issues.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of enterprise planning, portfolio governance, and Strategic Operations Office processes.
- Work effectively within a client environment and travel frequently, including for extended assignments, as required.
To qualify for the role, you must have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Strategy, Economics, Engineering, Finance, Public Administration, or a related field.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in portfolio planning, enterprise strategy planning and execution, transformation, consulting, business planning, or a related area.
- Hands-on experience supporting planning cycles, business planning workshops, stakeholder engagement, and the preparation or updating of business plans.
- Strong analytical, data management, and portfolio insight capability.
- Ability to structure complex information, connect strategic priorities to execution activities, and prepare clear management deliverables.
- Strong facilitation, stakeholder management, communication, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; familiarity with portfolio reporting or visualization tools is preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently and remain at client locations for extended periods.
Ideally, you’ll also have
- Experience in utilities or another highly regulated public-sector organization.
- Experience supporting a Strategic Operations Office, strategy office, transformation office, enterprise PMO, or portfolio management function.
- Experience with strategy execution frameworks, KPI design, benefits tracking, governance models, or balanced scorecards.
- Experience working in consulting, professional services, or secondment-style client assignments.
- Arabic language capability.
